Entry  Son of Rev. Robert Morehead D.D. : brother of W. A. Morehead (q.v.) : born in 1807 : M.D. of Cambridge : entered the Bombay Medical Service in 1829 : was on the Staff of Sir Robert Grant, Governor of Bombay, 1835-8 : was President of the Medical and Physical Society, Bombay, 1835-59 : Surgeon of the General Hospital, 1838 : in 1845 the Grant Medical College was erected at his instance, and he was the first Principal and Professor of Medicine : he also initiated native medical education in the Bombay Presidency, as Secretary to the Board of Native Education, 1840-5 : and was the first physician of the Jamsetji Jijibhai Hospital, till 1859 : Hony. Surgeon to Queen Victoria : retired in 1862 : F.R.S. of Edinburgh : C.I.E., 1881 : author of various medical works relating to India : died Aug. 24, 1882.
