CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1841: Writer. 1843: Assistant to Prinicipal Collector and Magistrate, Tanjore. 1844: In the same capacity at Nellore. 1845: Acting Head Assistant to the Collector and Magistrate, Nellore. 1847: Head Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Trichinopoly; afterwards Second Assistant to the Accountant-General, Madras. 1848: Acting Head Assistant to the Accountant-General. 1850: Head Assistant to the Accountant-General, and Canarese Translator to Government. 1854: Acting First Assistant to the Accountant-General. 1856: First Assistant to the Accountant-General; afterwards acting Sub-Treasurer, Secretary to the Savings Bank, Member of the Mint Committee, and Director of the Incorporated Bank of Madras. 1858: Acting Civil Auditor and Superintendent of Stamps. 1859: Civil Auditor; afterwards Accountant, North-Western Provinces. 1861: On medical leave to Europe for 15 months. 1863: Acting Deputy at Madras, afterwards Deputy Auditor and Accountant-General, Bengal, and officiating Auditor General and Accountant General to the Government of India. 1864: Acting Deputy Auditor and Accountant General, Madras. 1865: Accountant General, Bombay . 1868: On private affairs to Europe for 6 months; on duty in England. 1869: On furlough to Europe for 2 years. 1871: Resumed Accountant-General, Bombay. 1876: Retired from service, 24th December, in India. (Annuitant on the Fund.)
