CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1855: Writer and Student at the College. 1857: Assistant Collector and Magistrate, Madura. 1859: Acting Head Assistant, Tinnevelly. 1860: Special Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Malabar. 1861: Acting Sub-Collector, Malabar. 1863: On furlough to Europe for 20 months. 1865: Acting Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate, Tinnevelly; Head Assistant at Coimbatore; Sub-Collector, Nellore. 1866: Principal Assistant Collector, and Agent to the Government of Fort St. George, Ganjam; also Sub-Collector, Tinnevelly; Acting Collector and Magistrate, Coimbatore. 1867: Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate,Madras District; Acting Resident, Travancore; Leave on private affairs for 6 months. 1868: Resumed Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate, Madras District; Acting Secretary to the Revenue Board. 1869: Acting Collector of Sea Customs, and Protector of Emigrants, Madras. 1870: Secretary to the Revenue Board; Collector and Magistrate, Malabar; Agent for French Settlement of Mahe, 1875: Acting Secretary to Government, Revenue Department; Acting Resident of Travancore and Cochin. 1876: Resident of Travancore and Cochin. 1877: On furlough to Europe for 2 years, with extension for another year. 1882: Retired from service, 13th April, in England. (Annuitant on the Fund.)
