P. Grant {q.v.), then sole Judge, thereupon closed : new Judges were appointed, and Grant resigned : left India in Dec. 1830 : M.P. for Launceston, 1831-2 : began the Life of Lord Clive : wrote on the Government of India : died July 30, 1833 : his statue, by Chantrey, placed in Westminster Abbey : wrote also on Central India and Sketch of the Sikhs : he had great diplomatic experience and skill, and was very successful and influential with all classes. |
