Body of text  HENDERSON, ROBERT, son of Richard H. and Mary Short; ordained minister of Newton-upon-Ayr 10th January 1850 (cf Vol III, 14); appointed to Indian chaplaincy (Calcutta) 8th July 1851; served under Sir Colin Campbell and was present at the Relief of Lucknow (1858); was afterwards in Northern Provinces of India; retired 14th October 1871; died at Nice 27th September 1897. His first wife, Margaret Findlay, who died 26th June 1856, had issue - a daughter died in infancy. He married (2) 1st February 1858, Ann Charlotte (died 9th April 1860) daughter of Samuel Anderson, and had issue - Major-General Sir Robert Findlay, KCMG, CB, MB, CM; served in Sudan (1885), Burma, South Africa, and European War, 1914-17, born 11th December 1858, died 5th October 1924; Ann Charlotte Mary, born 27th March 1860, died 11th May 1923: (3) 20th December 1866, Helen Christina Palmer Meikle (born 5th February 1837, died 21st June 1907), and had issue - Helen Edith, born 4th September 1867 (married 10th February 1892, Robert Shields-Asluchsen).
