Service  Lieutenant Cockburn commanded a Detachment 1st Infantry Nagpore Irregular Force, in the Mundlah District, during the rebellion of 58, 59. Present at the taking of the Town of Ramghur, on 2nd April 58; at the repulse of rebels at the same place, on the 11th April; at the taking of the Fort of Sohagpore in the month of June 58. Present at the capture of the Ranee of Ramghur, in January 59. Was engaged in the pursuit of a party of the Dinapore Mutineers from Sohagpore, and was present at their defeat, 1st February 59, near Shahpoorah. Joined Colonel Shubrick, 3rd Madras European Regiment, with a Detachment 3rd Nagpore Irregular Force, in December 59,, when that Officer was engaged in the pursuit of Rummest Singh, and was present at one or two skirmishes in January 60. Received the thanks of Government. Medal.
