Service  Colonel Clarke served with the 25th Native Infantry in the Jhansie Field Force, in 39, 40 ; in the Army of the Punjab, 48, 49. Present at the actions of Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah, (where he succeeded to the Command of the Regiment,) and Goojerat. Medal and 2 Clasps. Assistant Brigade-Major, 5th Brigade, 3rd Division, 20th February, 49. Mentioned in Despatch of Sir Colin Campbell, 1st March 49. Promoted to the rank of Brevet-Major for service in the Punjab Campaign, 48, 49. Accompanied the Force under Brigadier Seaton, and present at the action of Bunkagaon, 8th October 58. Mentioned in the Brigadier-Generals Despatch, 17th November 58. Present as Commissioner in Oude, in the actions of Pusgaon, 19th October 58, and Russoolpore, 25th October 58, under Brigadier C. Troup. Medal.
