CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Inscription  Here lieth interred the body of JOSEPH WALSH, who departed this life the 2nd day of June MDCCXXXI aged 37 years.    
Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden  In December 1720, he married Elizabeth Maskelyne, and hence was a brother-in-law of Clive. His granddaughter Margaret married Sir John Benn Bart and became mother of the first Lord Ormathwaite.
