CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Inscription  Here lieth the body of FRANCIS RUSH, late Ensign in the Hon'ble Company's service who departed this life on the 31st Janri in the 36th year of his age anno domini 1729/30.     
Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden  The stone cutter has made his name look like Rushlate, but the true reading of the inscription is Francis Rush, late ensign.
