CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Inscription  [Sacrum memoriae ROBERTI TRENCHFIELD, mercatoris olim melioris] notae, qui post longam in his terris peregrinationem in hac ultima peregrinantium domo domum [inventit] tertio die Octobris 1699. [His etiam iacent ex liberis infantes duo] viz. [Thomas] et Judith, qui suum obierunt diem altera 25 Octobris alter 3 Novembris post die 1696.    
Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden  Two fragments of the same stone. Trenchfield married a sister of the Rev. John Evans chaplain in ""The Bay"". (See Hyde's Parochial Annals of Bengal).
