	Detail	[Pages 542-543. At Aberdeen. Ensign in 1793 in the 78th Regiment. Proceeded to India in 1797. In 1803 under Wellesley he took part in the storming of the Pettah of Ahmednuggur. In 1811 went with his regiment to Java. In 1813 suppressed an insurrection in eastern Java where Col. Fraser and Capt. M'Pherson had been murdered. In 1817 he returned with his Highlanders to Aberdeen, being the only officer remaining with his regiment of 42 who landed at Calcutta in 1797. He was accompanied by only 36 privates out of almost 1200 men who landed at the same time. Retired on half pay, 1817]
