Detail  At Montpelier House, South Lambeth, in his 70th year. John Poynder, esq. ""It is not too much to say that it is mainly owing to the untiring energy and zeal of Mr Poynder, who for many years contended almost single-handed in the Court of Proprietors at the East India House, that the annual immolation of above six hundred widows was put a stop to by Lord W. Bentinck; nor again, that it was owing to the same intrepid advocate of the Christian religion that the East India Company has in a great degree relinquished its connection with idolatry""... Church and state gazette.
