CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1850: Writer and Student at the College. 1853: Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Salem. 1855: On medical leave to Europe for 39 months. 1859: Assistant Collector and Magistrate, South Arcot; Senior Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor of Fort St. George, in Vizagapatam; Acting Sub-Collector, South Arcot. 1860: Prinicipal Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor, in Vizagapatam; to Act as Sub-Collecotr, South Arcot; Acting Subordinate Judge at Chicacole. 1861: Officiating Sub-Secretary, afterwards Sub-Secretary to the Revenue Board; Commissioner for the Assessment of Income-Tax. 1862: On special leave for 6 months. 1864: Member of the Income-Tax Commission. 1865: Acting Secretary to the Revenue Board; Officiating President of the Income-Tax Commission; Acting Secretary to the Board of Examiners. 1866: Secretary to the Board of Examiners; Acting Secretary to the Revenue Board; Acting Inam Commissioner; Acting Collector of Sea Customs, Madras. 1867: Secretary, Board of Revenue; and Acting Collector of Sea Customs. 1868: Acting Secretary to Government, Revenue Department. 1870: Collector and Magistrate, Madras District, as well as Secretary to Government; Collector and Magistrate, Chingleput; On furlough to Europe for 12 months. 1872: Acting Third Member of the Revenue Board; On Special Duty in Mysore. 1873: Additional Member of the Governor-General's Council for Making Laws and Regulations; Acting Secretary to Government, Revenue Department; Acting Chief Secretary to Government; Third Member of the Revenue Board. 1875: Officiating Chief Commissioner of Mysore and Coorg. 1876: Second Member of the Revenue Board. 1877: Proceeded on furlough to Europe; appointed Member of Council of the Secretary of State of India, and took his seat 6th November with permission to be considered still in the service of the Madras Government. 1879: Retired from service, 12th March; made a C.S.I, 28th July 1879. (Annuitant on the Fund.)
