CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1851: Writer and Student at the College; Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, North Arcot. 1852: Justice of the Peace. 1854: Acting Head Assistant and Register to the Court of Sudder and Foujdarry Adawlut. 1855: Head Assistant and Register to the aforesaid Court; On Medical leave to Europe for 20 months.1856: Deputy Secretary to Government in Chief Secretary's Departments, and Secretary to the Boards of Examiners. 1859: Private Secretary to Sir C. E. Trevelyan, K.C.B., Governor of Fort St. George . 1860: On medical leave to Europe for 17 months. 1861: Acting Sub-Judge, Chicacole; Principal Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor of Fort St.George, in Ganjam. 1862: Acting Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor of Vizagapatam. 1863: Collector and Magistrate, and Agent, Vizagapatam. 1867: Acting, afterwards Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor, Ganjam. 1869: Acting Judge of the High Court of Judicature; On furlough to Europe for 23 months. 1872: Acting Secretary to Government, Revenue Department; Acting Third Member of the Revenue Board; President of the Committee for Examination of Assistants; Inam Commissioner. 1872: Acting Secretary to the Government, Revenue Department; Acting Second Member of the Revenue Board; on Special Duty as President of the Committee inquiring into the Action of Officials during the Cyclone; Acting Third Member, afterwards Second Member, and again Third Member of the Revenue Board; Assistant Secretary, afterwards Secretary, to Government, Revenue Department. 1873: On furlough to Europe for 8 months; resumed Secretary to Government; Revenue Department. 1874: Acting Chief Secretary to Goverment; additional Member of Council for making Laws and Regulations. 1876: On special duty with Government at the Imperial Assemblage at Delhi. 1877: Chief Secretary to Goverment. 1878: At first Temporary, afterwards Ordinary Member of Council, took his seat 10th December. 1883: Vacated Seat in Council; On furlough to Europe for 18 months.
