CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1842: Writer. 1843: Acting Assistant to the Collector and Magistrate, Chingelput. 1844: Assistant to the Principal Collector and Magistrate, Nellore. 1845: Head Assistant to the Register to the Court of Sudder and Foujdarry Adawlut. 1846: Officiating Secretary to the College Board and University, Madras. 1848: Acting Head Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Cuddaph; afterwards Acting Malayum Translator to Government. 1849: Malayum Translator to Government. 1851: Acting Secretary, afterwards Secretary to the College and University Boards, Madras. 1852: Acting, afterwards Deputy Register to the Court of Sudder and Foujdarry Adawlut. 1853: Acting Register to the aforesaid Court. 1854: Member of, and Secretary to, the Board of Examiners. 1855: Director of Public Instruction. 1861: Commissioner for the Uncovenanted Civil Service Examination. 1862: Acting Chief Secretary, afterwards Chief Secretary to Government; Fellow of the University of Madras. 1862: Additional Member of Council of Fort St.George, for the purpose of making Law and Regulations. 1867: Member of the Council. 1872: On furlough to Europe for 2 years. 1873: Made a K.C.S.I., 24th January. 1874: Retired from service 29th October. 1878: Made a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire 1st January. (Annuitant on the Fund.)
