Entry  Son of Rev. Thomas Pocock, F.R.S. : born March 6, 1706 : entered the Navy, 1718, under his uncle, the first Lord Torrington : served in a number of ships : in the West Indies : in command of the Leeward Islands station, 1747-8 : went out to India in 1754 : Rear Admiral, 1755 : second in command to Admiral C. Watson (q.v.), whom he succeeded in 1757, and held the command until 1759 : fought two naval actions in 1758-9 with the French, off the Coromandel coast, without definite results : returned to England, 1760 : K.B. and Admiral, 1761 : took Havana, 1762 : retired, 1766 : died April 3, 1792.
