Robert Boileau Pemberton : late 44th Bengal N.I. : educated privately and at Addiscombe : entered the Bengal Engineers, 1853 : became Colonel, 1882 : Maj-General, 1892, when he retired: served in the Indian mutiny, at the siege of Delhi (slightly wounded) : in charge of the Engineer Park at the final capture of Lucknow by Sir Colin Campbell : mentioned in despatches: held various appointments in the P.W.D., 1857-91, including Director-General of Railways, and Secretary to the Government of India : Member of the Supreme Council from Feb. 1891, to April, 1892 : C.S.I. , 1894.
