Department, 1862, and rose through various grades to that of Chief Enigineer, 1st class : Consulting Engineer to Government of India for State Railways, 1889 : Secretary to Government of India, Public Works Department, 1892 : retired, 1894 : constructed the Attock bridge over the Indus : constructed the railway through the Bolan Pass to Quetta : constructed Uganda railway : C.I.E., 1883 : C.S.I., 1887: K.C.M.G., 1902.
