America : in the mutiny, in 1857-8 : P.M.O. in China, and of British troops in Bengal : head of Sanitary Branch of A.M.D. : Director-General of the A-M.Q., 1874 : introduced, in the face of opposition, many beneficial changes in the position and duties of Army Surgeons : obtained the Warrant of 1879, changing the old system of attaching medical officers to regiments : K.C.B. : died June 2, 1885.
