Entry  Born April 9, 1837 : son of John Morland : educated at Haversham and Bromsgrove, and privately : joined the Indian Navy, 1852 : served on the coasts of Africa, Arabia, at Perim, Jeddah, off Kattiawar : transferred to the Indian Marine, 1863 : Captain, 1877 : Transport Officer at Bombay, 1865-79 : despatched the Abyssinian expedition, 1867 : Conservator of the Port, and temporarily Secretary of the Port Trust : concerned with the Commissariat and Transport of the Afghan war, 1878-80 : Chairman of the Bombay Corporation in 1886-7 : took to England the Jubilee address, 1887 : knighted ; died at Bombay, July 28, 1891 : an ardent freemason : from 1874 Grandmaster of all Scottish freemasonry in India : fellow of the University, and of learned Societies at Bombay.
