Body of text  WILLIAM CROMIE NELSON, born 18th January 1922 at Ecclefechan, son of Alexander Bryden Nelson and Marie Cromie; educated at Stranraer Academy 1927-34, High School 1934-40, University of Glasgow 1940-2, Trinity College 1945-8, MA (1942), BD (1948), Jordanhill Training College 1948-9, Cert of Teacher Training (with Higher Diploma in Religious Instruction), 1949; service in Intelligence Corps 1942-4 in United Kingdom, 1944-5 in NW Europe; student assistant Glasgow St David's-Knightswood 1947-8; licensed by Presbytery of Glasgow March 1948; ordained by same Presbytery 8th April 1949; assistant Glasgow St Stephen's-Buccleuch 1949; appointed to Santalia December 1948, and served there from October 1949; transferred to ministry of United Church of Northern India 1952. Married 12th August 1949, Joan Barbara, MA, born 15th March 1927, daughter of Leonard Hugh Brown and Elsie Joan Hicks.
