Inscription  late of HM 57th Regt of Foot. Entered the British Army 1812 as a volunteer in 2nd Batn 53rd Regt. Wounded three times in the Peninsular. After more than 30 years of Honorable and Zealous Service in the course of which he several times fought and blrd [bled] in his countrys cause. He left the Army and held office of Depy Post-master Genl of Madras, also of High Sheriff. [more]. Tablet erected by a few friends as a mark of their affectionate esteem and regard.
