CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Inscription  In tuam memorial LOUISA LEWIS dilecta nuper et p[ia] coniux, cui puerperium necdum in medio heu ! nimium brevis vitae curriculo fatale extitit July 16, 1707, Et in vestram itidemmemoriam [dulces filioloe] Louisa et Louis[a] quaram diem vel pr[imo] mane nox at[ra] perpetua obruit, hoc posui monumen[tum] coniux et parens.    
Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden  This stone is in three fragments, and commemmorates the wife and two infant daughters of George Lewis, Chaplain at Fort St George from 1689 to 1714. George Lewis married Louisa Poirier, 14th July 1702. She was a daughter of Gabriel Poirier.
