Barbut, who commanded the troops stationed at Candy on the island of Ceylon. He was dep. Quarter-master-gen. to H. M. troops in India, and came to this country with the 73d regiment, to which he belonged at his death. His merits as an officer are universally mentionedwith the highest approbation, and his private character procurred him the esteem and regard of all to whom it was known, who now equally deplore the loss they have sustained. |
