Entry  Born 1794 : son of William Huthwaite, a draper, Alderman and Mayor : educated at the R.M.A., Woolwich : joined the E. I. Co.'s Bengal Artillery, 1810 : became Lt-General, 1868 : was in the Nipal war, 1815-16 : in Oudh, 1817 : in the Mahratta war, 1817-18 : in Cachar in 1824, to repel the Burmese invasion : at the capture of Bhartpur, 1825-6 : Brig- Major of Artillery, 1834 : held various important artillery commands : in the first Sikh war of 1845-6, at Firozshahr and Sobraon : C.B. : in the Panjab campaign, 1848-9 : at the Chenab, Chilianwala, and Gujarat, the surrender of the Sikhs, and pursuit of the Afghans to the Khyber : commanded a Brigade at Ludiana, and at Meerut : retired, 1854 : in 1860 transferred to the Royal Artillery : K.C.B. in 1869 : died at Naini Tal, April 4, 1873.
