Body of text  TURNBULL, ARCHIBALD, born at West Binnie, Linlithgow, 26th July 1855, son of Archibald T and Agnes Wilson; educated at High School and University of Edinburgh; MA (1876), BD (1879), and at Tübingen, Germany; licensed by Presbytery of Linlithgow in 1879; ordained (by Presbytery of Edinburgh) as missionary to Darjeeling 27th November that year, and served till 1900; died at Poldrait, Linlithgow, 3rd January 1905. He married (1) 9th January 1882, Mary Jane, daughter of Hugh Macdiarmid, DD, minister of Callander, and had issue ­ Archibald Macdiarmid, tea-planter, Dooars, Bengal, born 29th October 1882; Christina Brooks Macdiarmid, born 16th December 1883; Agnes Macdiarmid, born 2nd August 1888 (married 1916); Mary Macdiarmid, born 16th August 1889 (married 1915); Hugh Macdiarmid, lieutenant RS, born 11th June 1893, killed in action 5th September 1917; Rachel Mayo, born April 1895, died aged 14 months; Betty Macdiarmid, born 25th April 1896 (married 3rd August 1922, John Hubert Cooper); (2) April 1900, Katherine Agnes, widow of John Ferguson, sheriff­clerk of Linlithgow, without issue.
