Body of text  STIRLING, JAMES CLARK PAUL, born Edinburgh 30th April 1903; son of Rev James Stirling and Isabella Davidson Paul; educated at Westfield House School, Manchester Grammar School, Victoria University, Manchester, University of Edinburgh, MA, BD (1928); distinguished athlete; licensed by Presbytery of Edinburgh 1928 ; assistant, St Cuthbert's. Edinburgh ; ordained to Mills and Steamers Chaplaincy, Calcutta, 23rd October 1928; chaplain at Rawalpindi, Burree, Secunderabad and Madras 1938; was chaplain attached to Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and Cameronians (Scottish Rifles); Presidency Senior Chaplain, Madras; was chaplain in various campaigns on Indian Frontier; served as combatant officer 1940-4 as Company Commander 1st Battalion Baluch Regiment Frontier Campaign 1940; Intelligence Officer, 27th Indian Infantry Brigade, Iraq and Persia; Military Secretary's Branch 10th Army at General Headquarters, India; demitted 1943; admitted to Trinity, Coatbridge, 16th February 1946; demitted 3rd February 1948. Married Ruth Evelyn, daughter of William Alexander Chisolm, KC, and has issue � Robin Alasdair Chisolm, born 23rd April 1933.
