Body of text  MATTHEW, JOHN CROMBIE, born St Martin's, Perthshire, 6th July 1865; educated at Academy and University of Edinburgh, MA (1886), BD (1889), Marburg, Strasburg, and Berlin; licensed by Presbytery of Perth in 1891; assistant at Hillhead, Glasgow, 1891-5, and Queen's Park, Glasgow, 1896-7; appointed to Indian chaplaincy 11th December 1897; ordained by (Presbytery of Edinburgh) 21st November that year; senior Presidency chaplain 1917; retired 1st July 1921. Married 17th July 1899, Mina Annie Graham Holmes (born 15th December 1869), and has issue ­ Isabel Milicent, born 25th April 1900 (married 20th June 1925, Major A. Dickson Stirling, DSO, RAMC); Margaret, born 19th May 1904, died 19th June 1906; John Miller, born 28th April 1907. Publication - The Story of St Andrew's Church, Bombay (Bombay, 1913).
