Body of text  McNEILL, JOHN HENRY HORTON, born Strathbungo, Glasgow, 12th December 1872, son of Alexander M and Elizabeth Stevenson Campbell; educated at Hutcheson's and High Schools, Glasgow, Madras College, St Andrews, Universities of Glasgow, MA (1891), BD (Black Fellow 1896), and Jena; licensed by Presbytery of Glasgow 4th November 1896; assistant at St Andrew's Church, Buenos Aires, 1897-1900; ordained (by Presbytery of Glasgow) 16th September 1900; assistant at St Andrew's Church, Calcutta, 1900-2; appointed chaplain on Indian Ecclesiastical Establishment in 1902; attached to the Cameronians that year, the 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers 1905, 1st Seaforth Highlanders 1906; on active service, Zakkha Khal and Mohmand Expeditions, 1908; France 1914-15 (1914 Star); wounded 29th October 1914; Mesopotamia 1916-17; mentioned in despatches 29th October 1916 and 2nd November 1917; awarded M.B.E.; officiating Presidency senior chaplain, Madras, November 1919 ; retired 1923; officiated at Geneva 1923-4; locum tenens at Second Charge, Brechin, 1925; admitted to Gargunnock 12th May 1927. Married 29th June 1911, Lilian Sophie, daughter of Ronald Currie, MD, and has issue - Lillian Evelyn, born 18th August 1912. Publication - Orders for Use at Parade Services, Church of Scotland (Calcutta, 1905, Poona, 1923).
