Body of text  CRAWFORD, JOHN, born 15th January 1842, son of John C, minister of Crichton; educated at University of Edinburgh; BA (1860); MA (1863); BD (1865); licensed by Presbytery of Dalkeith 1865; assistant at Broughty Ferry 1866-7, Caputh 1867; missionary at Walkerburn 1868; assistant West Parish, Perth, 1868-70, St Andrews, Glasgow, 1870; missionary at Parkhead, 1870-2; ordained (by Presbytery of Glasgow) chaplain at Dimbula, Ceylon, 1872-6; acting chaplain at Galle, Ceylon, 1876-8; assistant at Tolbooth Parish, Edinburgh, 1878-9; missionary at Beauly and Guisachan, 1879-81; acting chaplain to Forces at Aldershot 1881; minister of Ruthrieston, Aberdeen, 1881-2; appointed chaplain at Meerut, India, 20th April 1882; died 30th June 1903. He married Harriet Crawford, DCS, who died at Cambridge, 12th September 1922, and had issue - a son. Publications ­ Buddhism at Home; Chastity in the British Army.
