Body of text  JOHN MACALISTER THOMSON, born 12th January 1830, eldest son of Henry Thomson, merchant, Bonhill, educated at University of Glasgow, MA (1849), ordained to Penicuik 2nd March 1854, translated to Third Charge, Stirling, 8th November 1855, appointed chaplain at Calcutta 22nd June 1859, translated to Meerut in 1863, translated to St Andrew's Church, Calcutta, 1867-79; inducted (assistant and successor) 18th and died suddenly in pulpit Sunday 28th March 1880. He married 23rd June 1858, Frances Ann Robertson, daughter of James Paterson, MD, 42nd Highlanders, and had issue, Henry Sinclair, born 25th April 1859, died at Rungamath, Buxa, Dooars, 13th November 1899, Ada Jemima, born Meerut, 26th November 1862, died 4th September 1866, Donald Sinclair, born 17th September 1869, died 27th October 1879.
