Body of text  JOSEPH LAURIE, DD, educated at University of Edinburgh, licensed by presbytery of Dumfries 5th November 1817, ordained by that Presbytery assistant chaplain in India 10th July 1822; appointed chaplain at Bombay in 1833, admitted to this charge 13th October 1843, resigned through ill health 9th March 1845, died 24th October 1870. He married 7th October 1822, Frances Brown (died January 1865), only daughter of John Barker, provost of Dumfries. Publications � Observations on the Extension and Present Condition of the Scottish Church in India, etc. (Edinburgh, 1840).
