Body of text  JOHN SLOAN, born Glasgow, 24th June, 1851, son of David S and Agnes Dennistoun Bankier; educated at Glasgow Academy and University of Glasgow and Edinburgh; MA (1873); licensed by Presbytery of Glasgow April 1878; assistant at Govan and Park Parish; ordained to Presbyterian Church, Rangoon, Burma, 1878; admitted here 1st September, 1882; admitted first minister of the parish 20th March, 1901; died 5th August, 1912. He married 13th August, 1890, Alice Jane, daughter of Thomas Brigg Laycock, Aireworth House, Keighley, Yorks, and had issue - Oswald Tennant, 2nd Lieutenant, Scottish Rifles, attached R.A.F., born 9th June, 1891; Alice Cruden, born 17th May, 1893; Jessie Dennistoun, born 30th April, 1895, Mary Victoria, born 19th March, 1897; Hilda Laycock, born 11th September, 1900; John Edward, born 1st November, 1902 died young.
