| Surname | Macredie | | Rank/ occupation | Lieutenant | | Unit | Artillery | | Death date | 1800 | | Place of death | Near Seringapatam | | Source | Gentleman's Magazine | | Date | Apr 1800 | | Page number | 394 | | Detail | Capt. Torriano and Lieut. Macredie; who, in their zeal to dislodge the enemy from a village near Seringapatam, fell victims to their ardour. Capt. Torriano advanced his gun from under cover, and was struck by a cannon-shot on the shoulder, which killed him upon the spot. Lieut. Macredie, exposing himself to take an account of the ammunition, soon afterwards shared the same fate, having had his head carried off by a shot from the same gun. This important post was then left without an artillery-officer; and when Lieut. Warden took charge of it, the situation was found to be so hot, that not a man was permitted to stand up. |
