Part 2 | | Page number | 1220 | | Detail | Mr. Alexander Home, late surgeon of the 35th regiment of foot. He was taken prisoner during the war in the East Indies, by a party of Tippoo's cavalry, upon his return to Earl Cornwallis' camp from Bangalore, after visiting the sick and wounded under his charge. He remained for some time a prisoner at Seringapatam and was removed thence to Naurindroog, a hill 40 miles to the North, where he was put to death on the 15th or 16th of January last, by the orders of Tippoo, without any provocation given, or cause assigned for this barbarity, except the detestable desire of disappointing the humane interference of his Lordship for Mr. Home's exchange by delivering up in return the paymaster of Tippoo's infantry, then a prisoner. Mr. H. was the second son of the late Mr. Abram H. minister at Whittingham. |
