| Surname | Eyles | | First names | William | | Rank/ occupation | Lieutenant | | Unit | 2nd East India Volunteers | | Death date | 26 Dec 1799 | | Place of death | Newington | | Source | Gentleman's Magazine | | Date | Jan 1800 | | Page number | 85 | | Detail | At Newington, Surrey, aged 28, Lieutenant William Eyles, of the light infantry company in the 2d regiment of East India volunteers. His death was occasioned by a severe cold, in consequence of a wet field-day, about seven months since, which brought on an obstruction to the liver, that terminated in a consumption. As an officer, he was held in great esteem by the whole brigade to which he belonged; and, in his private character, his amiable disposition, and gentleness of manners, will render his loss a severe affliction to those friends who best knew how to estimate them. He was buried at Newington, with military honours. |
