Service  Colonel Lawrence served with the Army of the Indus, 39, 40, 41. Present at the capture of Ghuznee. Medal. Pursuit of Dost Mahomed Khan, 39, and forcing of the Khoord Cabul Pass by the Force under Sir Robert Sale, October41. 3rd class Dooranee Order. Taken prisoner on the 23rd December 41, and released on the 29th of the same month. In retreat from Cabul surrendered as hostage to Akbar Khan, released 21st September 42; fell into the hands of Sirdar Chutter Singh, after the night attack made by the Sikh Army on the Peshawur Agency, October 48. Retreated to Kohat, then made prisoner by Sirdar Sultan Mahomed Khan, liberated 7th March 49, on the submission of the Sirdar to Major-General Gilbert. Medal and Brevet-Lieutenant- Colonel.
