Commanded a Detachment of the Kumaon levy at the action of Churpoorah, 10th February 58. Commanded the Infantry portion of a Field Force under the Command of Captain now Lieutenant-Colonel S. Browne, at the action of Surpoorah, on the 30th August "58, and succeeded to the Command of the Force itself on that Officer being placed hors de combat by severe wounds, (Charger disabled by sword cuts.) Received the thanks of their Excellencies the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief for gallant conduct shown on that occasion. Medal. |
