Service  Lieutenant Cadell, V. C., served with the 2nd Bengal Fusiliers during the whole of the operations before Delhi. Battle of Badlee-ka-Serai, 8th June 1857. Final assault and capture of the City, 14th September 1857, and subsequent operations with the Moveable Column under Brigadier Showers, C. B., in the District of Delhi. Medal, Clasp, and Victoria Cross. Served in the 4th Irregular Cavalry with Brigadier Colin Troups Column in the Oude Campaign of 1858-59. Present at the action at Hindun, under Colonel Brind, in which 13 guns were taken from Ferozeshah. Mentioned in Colonel Brinds Despatch, dated 18th or 19th November 58, and with Colonel Turners Column, in Bundlecund, in 59. Commanded No. 1 Bundlecund Flying Column, and received the thanks of Government, 29th May 1860.
