CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Inscription  Here lyeth interr'd the body of CAROLINA BURNISTON, relict of John Burniston, Esq., deceased, sometime Deputy Governor of ye Island, Bombay, who departed this life the 11th day of July 1708; also two of her grandsons, viz. JOHN, son of WILL AISLABIE, Esq., Generall of India, and JOHN, son of John Scattergood, of this place, Merchant, who both dyed infants.     
Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden  ""Generall of India"" signified Governor of Bombay with authority to visit other stations.
