CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Inscription  Here lyeth the body of GEORGE TORRIANO, Esqr. late of Council of this place, who departed this life on the 16th day of May 1741, aged 41 years. Also of SUSANNA CATHARINA his wife, who departed this life onthe 15th day of September following aged 37 years.     
Comment by Rev. Charles Herbert Malden  One of their sons, RIchard perished in the Black Hole of Calcutta.
