CommentIndex of names from 'A Hand Book to St Mary's Church, Fort St. George, Madras', written by the Rev. Charles Herbert Malden, Canon of St George's Cathedral, Madras and Garrison Chaplain, 1893-4 and 1901-6. The transcription is of The Old Tombstones | Outside St Mary's Church. The other memorials recorded in the book are of those inside the church.

The book contains a useful checklist (as at 1905) of the church's registers from 1680.

The book is in the library of the East India Club in St James's Square, London SW1Y 4LH.

Description of Gravestone  Three bells and helmet. Two emblems of mortality. Inscription in Portuguese.    
Inscription  Here lies buried Maria Soares de Alvergaria daughter of Antonio Soares de Alvergaria and of Francesca Ribiera native of Madras who was wife to Edward La Cloche, and who died at the age of 40 years and 3 months on the 12th January 1712. Whoever reads this epitaph to say for my soul one ""Our Father"" and one ""Hail Mary""
