Full Text  At Barracpoore, in the 22d year of his age, Lieut. J. P. Read, of the marine regiment, a young man, whose early virtues gave presage of a useful and distinguished progress through life; exempt from all the frivality generally attendant on youth; of a serene, pensive turn of mind; his conduct in private life, and in discharge of his professional duties, was exemplarily correct. Peculiarly susceptable of moral and religious impressions, of the most delicate sensibility, while at the same time the benevolence of his heart and amiable disposition conspiring with highly conciliating manners, gave peculiar interest to his character, and endeared him to society, mor especially to the circle in which he was best known to his bother officers, the sincerity of whose affliction for his death, affords a far better tribute to his memory than verbal expression can easily convey. Lieut. Read was son of Captain Read, many years barrack master of Berhampore.
