Detail  [At Odessa, in consequence of wounds received in defending H.M. ship Tiger (as stated in our last Magazine, p.630), Capt. Henry Wells Giffard, R.N. He was the son of Admiral John Giffard by Susannah dau. of the late Sor John Carter, Knt. of Portsmouth. He entered the service in 1824. Lieut. 1831. In May 1833 posted to Volage 28, and in Sept 1837 to the Hyacinth 28, on the Mediterranean and East India stations. In 1840 in expedition to China. Sent with dispatches to Calcutta, returned with Sir Hugh Gough, in operations at Canton, March 1841]
