""He first went to sea as a midshipman in the service of the Hon. East India Company; and entered the royal navy towards the close of 1797 as master's mate."" As a Lieut. served for some time in the East Indies. Married 1st 9 Nov 1813 Katherine Mary, eldest dau. of the late Sir William Abdy, Bt., Capt. R.N. She died Oct. 1817 and he married 2nd 24 Aug. 1819 Mary Anne Catharine, only child of the late Isaac Humphreys, Colonel Bengal Artillery, and Military Secretary to its government.
