Detail  [Pages 651-652. 3rd son of John Montresor, esq. of Belmont, Kent by a sister of Lieut.-Gen. Sir Samuel Auchmuty. Born at New York in 1774. joned the 22nd Dragoons in India shortly after peace between England and France, in 1806 took command of the subsidiary force in Hyderabad. ""Two dangerous mutinies in the Madras army occurred during Lieut.-Colonel Montresor's command at this station, and were suppressed in a great measure by the steps he pursued."" In Oct. 1809 was appointed in command of the troops serving his Highness the Peishwa at Poonah. In 1813 returned to England. He married in 1802 Mary, dau. of Major-Gen. Frederick George Mulcaster, Royal Engineers]
