Detail  [Pages 84-86. At Paris, in his 75th year. Born 20 Jan 1773, 6th son of Garrett 1st Earl of Mornington, and youngest brother of the Duke of Wellington. Diplomat, then in Oct. 1797 accompanied his brother Lord Wellesley, newly appointed Governor General of India, as his private secretary. Appointed a commissioner in Mysore. Appointed lieut.-governor of the ceded districts of Oudh, to the dissatisfaction of the EIC, who thought such patronage should have gone to their own staff. In 1803 he left India. Married 1st 20 Sept 1803 Lady Charlotte Cadogan, 2nd dau. of Earl Cadogan, 4 children. His wife had an affair with Lord Paget, now the Marquess of Anglesey. They eloped in 1809, and a duel followed. Marriage dissolved, he remarried]
