Detail  [Aged 74. Born Glasgow. Sent to the East Indies as a captain in 1804. There he commissioned and fitted out a country ship, purchased at Bombay for HM service: the Sir Francis Drake frigate. In her he remained from Oct 1805 to March 1806 when he removed into the Grampus, 50, then employed in India, and then at the Cape of Good Hope, from which he returned in 1809 with a fleet of the Hon. Company's ships, and other traders, which he he had taken under his protection at St Helena. The EIC presented him with money to buy plate in appreciation]
