Detail  [Born 29 May 1773, Edinburgh, to John Russell, Writer to the Signet of Scotland by Bethia Campbell. Practised for many years as a distinguished physician at Calcutta. Made a baronet in 1832 for services when cholera was raging. Married 1st Sophia, dau. of his half uncle Claude Russell, esq. of Binfield, Berkshire. She died at Calcutta in 1813. Two daus: Bethia, who married Russell Elliott, and Leonora, who married in 1833 Charles Henry Pigot. He married 2nd at Calcutta, 1814, Jane Eliza, coheiress of Col. James Doddington Sherwood, EI artillery. There were 1 son and 5 daus. He is succeeded in the title by his only son, now Sir William Russell, born in 1822]
