CommentThese are summaries of the Services of Service of Madras Civil Servants entering the Service from 1740 to 1858. Evidently, several of them continued to serve beyond this date.

The data are transcribed from the book compiled by Charles Prinsep published by Truebner & Co in 1885.

Summary of Service  1845: Writer. 1847: Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Tinnevelly. 1851: Acting Head Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Tinnevelly. 1853: In the same capacity at Madura; afterwards Special Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Masulipatam. 1854: Acting Prinicipal Assitant to Collector and Magistrate, and Agent to the Governor of Fort St. George, in Vizagapatam. 1855: Head Assistant to Collector and Magistrate, Madura; Acting Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate, Masulipatam; Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate, Madura; On furlough to Europe for 3 years. 1857: Acting Sub-Judge, Chittoor. 1858: Additional Sub-Collector and Joint Magistrate, Bellary; Deputy Director of Revenue Settlement. 1860: On furlough for the unexpired portion of leave granted in 1855, with 3 months in addition for time occupied on his passage to and from India. 1861: Returned to Madras. 1862: Acting Collector and Magistrate, Tanjore; Sub-Collector of Madura; Collector and Magistrate, Malabar. 1869: At first Acting, afterwards Resident in Travancore and Cochin. 1870: On furlough to Europe for 14 months. 1871: Resumed Office as Resident in Travancore and Cochin. 1875: Acting Second Member, afterwards Acting Third Member, of the Revenue Board. 1876: Third Member of the Revenue Board; On furlough to Europe for 1 year and 4 months. 1877: Acting Second Member of the Revenue Board. 1878: First Member of the Revenue Board; Services placed at the Disposal of the Government of India on Appointment as Member of the Famine Commission. 1879: Retired from service, 28th January. (Annuitant on the Fund.)
